Blue Highways: A Journey Into America

  [Postcard of Oakland in 1910s]
This vintage postcard pictures downtown Oakland. There is no text on the back, but it was postmarked on March 13, 1914. San Pablo Avenue, this issue's featured topic, is the street in the center of the postcard. This combination city street and rural road stretched for 12 miles to the north to San Pablo. In 1927, the section between San Pablo and University Avenue in Berkeley became part of the Lincoln Highway. In 1928, it was designated US 40. Postcard from the collection of George Clark.
