From the EditorWes HammondIn the last newsletter I stated that I would continue with another Auburn story in this issue, due to the amount of material I had available. I have changed my mind and I will be moving around the Lincoln Highway territory with each issue. Different coverage in each issue should be more interesting to the readers. My original plans for this issue were to cover the San Pablo Avenue section of the Lincoln Highway between San Pablo and Oakland. The San Pablo Avenue story will be of a different theme than usual for a highway magazine, and I hope you will find it exciting. It will now be in the March 2001 issue. The reason for the change is due to a great story with photos by Chapter Vice-President Norman Root. His story concerns the chapter's auto tour of the Lincoln Highway between Sacramento and Fairfield and the setting of a marker in Dixon on Saturday, September 23. So the theme of this issue is of that section of highway, and I have added some more material to fit in with what Norman has covered. A special thank-you to Norman Root and chapter members George Clark and Donn Marinovich who also have contributed material. Some of their items will be used with this issue and some at a later date. The California Chapter of the LHA has answered the request of the National President to send photos to the National Headquarters to be used as decorations for this facility. Chapter President Mary Salazar has sent a number of black-and-white photos, and chapter member George Clark has sent enlargements of color postcards from his collection. This issue has an article about existing original concrete markers between Davis and Fairfield. Also, Chapter Vice-President Norman Root has prepared a two-page story and a one-page map, with the location and history of the four original markers in Vacaville. If you would like a copy of this story, send a business-sized self-addressed stamped envelope to: 2000 Tour Guide If you'd like to send material to be used in the newsletter, mail it to: The Traveler Please do not send originals; send photocopies. |
