Bob Lichty, past president of the Lincoln Highway Association and former board member of the Lincoln Highway Heritage Corridor, will be speaking at the National Packard Museum in Warren, Ohio on February 18, 2012 from 11:00 am to 12:00 noon, on The Lincoln Highway Revisited.

Gas and oil boom fills up vintage motor inn
Palmantier’s Motel, a vintage motor inn near Minerva, Ohio on the Lincoln Highway, is experiencing a boom in business because of a renewed interest in oil and natural gas drilling in eastern Ohio.

Historic Vermillion Institute in Hayesville, OH to be restored
The Vermillion Institute, built in 1846 in Hayesville, Ohio, has been bought by a historic preservation consulting group and will be restored. It originally housed a college and later a high school, but it has been vacant since 1929. The building is at the corner of Main Street (Lincoln Highway) and College Street.

Lincoln Highway overpass over railroad in Lynwood, IL approved
The Illinois Department of Transportation has approved design plans for highway overpasses spanning Canadian National Railway tracks in two Illinois locations, at Lincoln Highway (U.S. 30) in Lynwood and at Ogden Avenue (U.S. 34) in Aurora. Planners opted for overpasses instead of underpasses because it would save money and take less time. CN must pay for the vast majority of the construction costs.

Lincoln Highway Digital Image Collection
Back in 1937, the original Lincoln Highway Association donated its archive to the University of Michigan. The archive is now held in the university’s Special Collections Library. In 2007, the library finished digitizing every photograph in the archive, over 3,000 of them, and placed them online. You can browse the collection and search over the captions of the photos.
