Lincoln Highway an alternative to flooded highways

Old Lincoln Highway near Council Bluffs, Iowa is once again a major thoroughfare: traffic has dramatically increased because of the flooding and closure of Interstate 29. Commutes are longer, and residents are concerned about people driving too fast along the road.

Man drives Lincoln Highway in wheelchair to promote spinal cord research

Chet Dyreson is traveling across the United States in his motorized wheelchair to raise attention to spinal cord injuries. Much of his route has been along the Lincoln Highway. He left Perris, California on May 30, and expects to reach Washington, D.C. on Monday, the 4th of July.

Authorites in Pottawattamie County are asking bicyclists to avoid using the Old Lincoln Highway in Iowa between Council Bluffs and the Harrison County line. The narrow road has had an increased amount of traffic due to the flooding and closure of Interstate 29, which runs parallel to the old highway.

Classic tourist attraction in Grand Island, NE reopens

Shady Bend, once the site of a tourist camp, general store, and gas station in Grand Island, Nebraska, has reopened as a restaurant. It is attracting customers and visitors who remember its earlier days.

Fish Springs threatened by proposed aquifer pumping

The future of Fish Springs National Wildlife Refuge is potentially threatened by Southern Nevada Water Authority’s bid to pump water from the Snake Valley Aquifer, which feeds the springs, to Las Vegas. Fish Springs was an important stop along the Lincoln Highway.
