Sports Leisure Vacations
Sacramento, California

  1. Meeting Called to Order 10:00 am
    1. Thank you to Mark Hoffman for offering meeting area at Sports Leisure Vacations for our meeting this month.
  2. Introductions/Attendance Sign-in Sheet Count
    1. 24 members have shown up.
  3. Approval of Meeting Minutes
    1. Trey made a motion; Greg Gassman seconded the approval of the minutes with no changes. The motion passed unanimously
  4. Officer Elections: All officers agreed to continue. Larry Friedman made a motion, seconded by Greg Gassman
    1. Passed unopposed
  5. Officer, Staff, & Committee Reports
    1. Neil Rodrigues: State Director, Board
      1. Lincoln Highway Conference June 24–28 in Ogallala, Nebraska.
      2. Car Club affiliation: Neil will attend both car clubs and be able to give talks about the Highway 50 alignment of the Lincoln Highway.
      3. Gave two metal signs to place in Verde as well as a sign to Oliver’s after having a chat with various people.
    2. Joel Windmiller: President
      1. Locations for future meetings: Most businesses are unwilling to budge on prices for meetings, which is making it difficult to schedule meetings. If you have an idea, please conduct some initial research to assist with the process: meeting area, place, or area for eating.
        1. Perhaps we should meet off the LH highway, up to five miles away, to provide a better selection of meeting places.
        2. Consider checking with hotels along the route to determine the cost for a meeting.
        3. Check into church halls. Since our meetings are on Saturdays, this might work in our favor.
        4. Instead of being at a restaurant, have a potluck to help cut down on costs.
        5. Libraries have public meeting rooms.
        6. Loomis Train Depot, BBQ place right across the street.
        7. Duarte Garage is free, so we can visit there once a year.
        8. How about something closer to Stockton? Check out Pacific Avenue.
        9. Lincoln Park Golf Course: Andy will make the initial calls.
        10. Mountain House motorcycle club
        11. Perhaps the July meeting could be replaced with a Zoom meeting, as summer seems to be a challenging time for in-person meetings. The other option discussed was skipping the summer meeting. Another option would be to replace the July meeting with a short tour and a picnic.
    3. Andy Saunders
      1. Signage in Citrus Heights
        1. Worked with Paul Gilger to put three new flags on the map.
        2. Met with city councilperson. She had the signs made and are on light posts, 12 Mile House, 14 Mile House, Sylvan Cemetery
        3. Later there will be a gateway arch, and we will have a Lincoln highway sign in bronze to match the color scheme of the gateway.
        4. Contacts: Roseville. Nothing on the map yet so Andy will be working on signage on this section.
    4. Trey Pitsenberger: Vice President/Signage/Traveler/Historian
      1. Sign coordinator: Thank you to Andy for all he has done to get the Lincoln Highway signed in an area where he lives.
      2. Folsom has finished the sign project from Bidwell Road along the Lincoln Highway. Trey would like to use Folsom as a model for how to sign other cities along the road.
      3. Paul: Getting the Lincoln Highway byway status in each state could help with getting the road signed. Some states have done this. To help people follow the signs, we need directional signage in place. Use the map and decide the entire state. Then, we choose what we want to assign so that we have a plan when we go to cities with our presentations.
      4. Auburn: They were going to build a roundabout at CA 49 and CA 193, but someone at Caltrans forgot to get permits from the railroad. Union Pacific is not about to give away their right-a-way, so the whole project is at a standstill.
      5. Sacramento and West Sacramento are still on the list to get the ball rolling on having the road signed. Rosario Rodriquez is now the county supervisor. She might be a great contact for us for future signage.
    5. Grant Gassman: Treasurer's Report
      1. Disbursements
        1. Meeting $240
      2. Two Deposits
        1. National: $609

    7. Mark Hoffman: Tours
      1. Sports Leisure Travel
        1. Lincoln Highway Trip this summer, June 5–9, 2025.
      2. Route 66 Centennial: When anyone calls attention to one highway, this is a great time to call attention to all highways that are that are out there to travel, including LH. We should do something to promote the Lincoln Highway on the back of the Route 66 celebrations.
    8. Jimmy Lin: Website Update: Unable to attend and no report submitted.
    9. Paul Gilger:
      1. BIG TOUR: 2025 Lincoln Highway Tour.
        1. 1928 Route
        2. Middle Tour: Starts on June 17 in Joliet, Illinois. Tour is from June 18 in Joliet to June 25 Cheyenne, Wyoming
      2. The Lincoln Highway by Amor Towles is being made into a movie. When the movie is released, it will be big for us and help us get some notoriety. There was a letter for the characters of the Lincoln highway. Paul read the letter. It was quite moving and will be kept with the other Lincoln Highway artifacts.
