Neil Rodrigues: State Director
-
There was a telephone conference meeting of the national directors. Neil missed it but shared information.
- May 8 is the deadline for signing up for conference in Ogallala, Nebraska.
- Neil found an amazing deal on The Lincoln Highway coffee table books available at Kohl’s. They were $3 each. He bought several, but he will not give any to us because we already know about the Lincoln Highway. He is handing them out to people who do not know about the Lincoln Highway. Myrna Johnston was able to purchase one from Neil.
-
There was a telephone conference meeting of the national directors. Neil missed it but shared information.
-
Joel Windmiller: President
- Mo Mohanna: Joel made a visit to Mo Mohanna’s property. Mr. Mohnana says that he is planning on preserving everything Lincoln Highway on his property. He wants to keep the roads available for walking and bicyclists. There are about five sections of the road that need to be repaired and repatched, but most of the original road is still there to enjoy.
-
Brochures: If we have the California brochure printed, it will cost our club around $1,000. We could pay out of our money or find a benefactor who is history oriented who might want to fund our brochure. If we want the basic LH brochure, we can have those for free. Neil mentioned that Trey might have some California brochures.
- Neil motioned to invest in money for the California brochures. The amount will be decided later. Paul seconded the motion. The motion was approved.
-
Digital scanning: We want our historical material to be digitally scanned. Kendra Stoll (Caltrans librarian at our meeting) shared that the state library funds California Revealed, which scans items for non profits for free. It was also shared that the Internet Archive has two collections of oral history that they digitized for free. Kendra can send the information for online. After some discussion, it was decided that these are the first steps for this process. Kendra said she would be willing to work with Joel to help us move forward on this activity.
- Step 1: Go through the boxes collection and prioritize what we want to digitized first.
- Step 2: Create an inventory and a spreadsheet of materials.
- Side note: Neil will be creating a Dropbox folder for materials to be accessed by members.
- Joel created a document with a wishlist for our LH chapter.
-
Discussion about meetings for the future:
- At the last meeting, there was discussion about four meetings per year. Did we want to keep all four or come up with another format for meetings?
- After some discussion, a motion was made to change our meetings beginning January 2026: January (online via Zoom), April (in person), and October (in person). In July we would have a car tour with a quick meeting where we have lunch. Paulette Johnston seconded. Motion was approved.

- Andy had a meeting at Carnegie Library. He is going to meet with some people to select some points of interests and get more signs up.
- Orangevale: History Museum says they are on board for approving putting up signs at the Connor House as well as at Greenback and Main.
- Andy was at an estate sale in Citrus Heights and came acroos a 1975 Lincoln Highway book with the actual signature of Frank Seiberling, president of Goodyear and board member of the original Lincoln Highway Association. Seiberling also gave money for the road to be built across Utah.
- HathiTrust Digital Library is an organization that scans large university collections. You have to be a member to download, but you can read online. Someone may have found the book downloadable online.
